Portion Controlled Sweets

April 4, 2013

One of the toughest parts of sticking to a diet is limiting your sweets. For some, this can be difficult and often a deal breaker on an otherwise successful diet and exercise program. But it is important to mention that any good diet that you can adhere to for the rest of your life is not one that cuts out things entirely. Moderation is the key to healthy eating and with smart choices you can still have the sweets that you love with none of the guilt.
Cake-popsCake Pops
All the rage this year, cake pops are available in practically any bakery in a variety of flavors and decorations. These decadent treats are still made with all the ingredients of a normal cake, but they are perfectly iced and perfectly portioned controlled. That makes them one of the best cheat day treats on the market today. Buying them individually means you’re less likely to have them on hand and less likely to snack unnecessarily.

100 Calorie Packs
Most of the big name snack cake and cookie distributors are getting in on the 100 calorie game and consumers have everything to gain. It seems that no matter what kind of snacker you are, you will find the treats to satisfy you in those 100 calorie packs. Sweet or salty–you name it. If you are looking for a way to save a little cash, you can buy large containers of the products like cookies and trail mix and make them into your own perfectly portioned packs.

Mug cakes
These ingenious little cakes are baked one serving at a time, and sometimes even in your own microwave. Mug cakes are all the rage with those who want to do more cooking in their microwave and they keep you from going back for seconds. Like cake pops, these recipes call for all the things that cake do, only limited in quantity. With hot, fresh cake, it is probably best to have your quantities limited so that you don’t over do it.

Jelly Beans
If you are looking for a little more variety in your snacking flavors, then jelly beans might be the answer to what you are looking for. These little sweets only carry about 4 calories per bean which means that you can eat a whopping 25 beans and still be right at the 100 calorie cut off. With flavors ranging from buttered popcorn to chocolate liquor, there is definitely something for everyone when it comes to jelly bean flavors. Because these types of packages rarely come in portion controlled sizes, it may be something you have to take upon yourself to get them broken up into healthy portions.

No matter what sweets you decide to use to cater to your sweet tooth, moderation is the key. Sitting down to make them into portion controlled packs while you aren’t hungry will help you to alleviate the temptation and set yourself up for success instead of failure when it comes to your diet goals.
