Congratulations on your hard earned weight loss success!
Once you’ve successfully completed the weight loss and Transition phases of the Medifast program, you’re ready to make the permanent changes you need to sustain your weight loss and improved health. Medifast’s comprehensive, structured Maintenance plan will help you maintain a healthy weight and keep the results you’ve worked so hard to achieve.
Maintaining Your Healthy Weight
The Medifast Maintenance phase involves monitoring your weight, balancing your calories, making smart food choices, and staying physically active. Similar to the Transition phase, the Maintenance phase isn’t one-size-fits-all—your gender, age, height, weight, and activity level will determine your unique calorie requirements. Below are some highlights of the Maintenance phase.
The 3 & 3 Plan
3 meals featuring lean protein and vegetables + 3 daily fuelings each day
During your lifelong Maintenance phase, you’ll continue to eat six times every day. In addition to lean protein, healthy fats, and all vegetables, you’ll be able to enjoy the fruit, low-fat dairy foods, and whole-grain starches that you re-introduced during the Transition phase. You’ll continue to avoid fried, sugary, greasy, creamy, and calorie-rich foods.
Fuelings are low-calorie mini-meals that incorporate a range of healthy foods and delicious flavors, including Medifast Meals and combinations of healthy ingredients you can buy at your produce market or grocery store.
Tips for Success
As you make permanent and lasting changes to the way you think about and interact with food to maintain your healthy weight, keep these simple, yet important tips in mind:
- Learn how to determine your body’s caloric needs in the Medifast Maintenance Guide and use this number as a guide for your daily eating plan.
- Eating more calories than your body needs will cause you to gain weight; eating fewer calories will cause you to lose weight.
- Regular physical activity helps you burn calories, strengthens your body, and helps keep your metabolism active.
- Read food labels for serving size information and calories per serving so you can keep track of your total daily caloric intake.
- Remember that restaurant servings are two to four times larger than normal. Request a carry out box when you order and put at least half of your meal in the box as soon as it’s served.
Above all, remember that life happens. If you regain five or more pounds, don’t think all is lost. Instead, consider going back on the Medifast 5 & 1 Plan for a few weeks to get back on track. And don’t forget about all the great Medifast support resources that helped you reach your goals in the first place.
