Medifast and Weight Watchers are two of the most popular and respected companies that offer weight loss programs. Both the companies have been doing a fantastic job of guiding people to reduce weight in accordance to their height. People who follow their diet programs diligently and consistently are assured of weight loss. It is difficult to compare two such companies as they have their own positive and negative qualities.
The Medifast diet plan consists of five meal replacement products every day along with one lean and green meal. All their meals are pre- packaged and have the correct amount of fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals essential for your body. There is a variety of weight loss diet available with them, you can choose any one of your choice. Even the “lean and green meal” is of your choice but of course they give the specification of what to eat , what to avoid and how much to eat. Lean and green meal consists of a small portion of lean meat and 2 cups of vegetable or fruit salad.
In comparison, Weight Watcher is limiting. You do have freedom to eat your own food but there is an important fact to be taken into consideration. Weight Watchers have a unique Weight Watchers point system. According to this system every food item is assessed for its nutritional value and given a number. You have to follow a weight loss diet based on this restricted point diet. There is a list of food items in Weight Watchers points list. You can make your own food plan based on this list, thus your calorie intake is monitored by Weight Watchers. You are free to eat anything as long as you keep an eye on the restricted point diet.
The advantage of Weight Watchers diet plan is that you can buy the food products from any grocery store. But with reference to Medifast diet plan, you have to necessarily purchase the meal replacement products either online or through authorized vendor.
Also, while Weight Watchers is low calorie diet plan, Medifast is very low calorie diet plan. Weight Watchers diet plan allows a calorie intake of 1250 for women and 1600 calories for men, per day. Medifast allows only 800 to 1000 calories intake per day.
