Log it to Lose it!

August 5, 2012

Why should you consider keeping a daily food journal?  Simply put, keeping close track of the foods you eat every day can help you lose more weight.  When you commit to writing down everything you eat or drink, you can increase your weight loss by an impressive 50 percent!

Keeping a food journal isn’t hard.  You can make it as involved or as simple as you want it to be.  All that matters is that you actually keep track of whatever it is that you put in your mouth no matter how small the portion size is.  You can use a basic notebook and pen to create a simple journal that will keep all your information in one place.

If you love using the newest technology, you can take advantage of one of the many mobile phone apps or online food journals.  Many are free, and some of these programs will even keep track of the calories, fat grams, proteins and other nutrients that you ingest each day and automatically add them up for you.

Keeping a food log works in two ways.  First, the simple act of logging your food makes you more aware of what and how much you’re eating.  Secondly, studying your food journal will help you see where you need to cut back or make changes, and is especially helpful if you reach a plateau where your weight loss begins to slow.

A food diary provides a clear record of your journey toward weight loss and good health.  To make it work for you, you must be brutally honest when you record what you eat.  You should also be sure to include what you’re doing and how you’re feeling when you eat.

Don’t delay any longer!  Start your food journal today.  The details you record in your log will provide important clues that will lead you to weight loss success.
